About Mobile Design

What exactly is Mobile Design?

Mobile Design offers a subscription-based service specializing in native mobile app design.

What software do you use?

For designs, user flows, design systems, asset handoffs, and prototyping, we use Figma. We transfer design assets, specs, redlines, and all necessary data from Figma files to developers or clients based on your specific needs and requirements.

If you already have Figma files, we can either access them or host them on our end. There are NO additional fees for using this software.

Where did this native app subscription model come up?

For 20 years, I have observed how many recruiters carelessly hire design talent and profit significantly by merely making a connection. Many professional placement companies lack expertise in native app design and often do not know what to look for, as their focus lies in other professions. While not all placement companies operate this way, I believed there was a more straightforward method for designing native apps.

As industry-experienced native app design specialists, we have collaborated with professional placement recruiters, stakeholders, directors, managers, product and project managers, vendors, and other designers. This has given us deep insights into how the industry operates, including its constraints and effective practices. What we discovered is that designing and developing an app can be quite simple.

Where are you located?

Our headquarters is based in Bellevue, Washington, and we have remote resources across all continental time zones. We also operate in Tokyo, Japan, and are open to working with clients in other cities around the world.

Does your team only work remotely?

During and after COVID, we discovered that the work-life balance of our employees significantly improved. Eliminating the need for commuting reduced the cost of living and brought numerous positive outcomes. Living in high-cost cities like downtown Austin, Seattle, New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles has become unaffordable. To save money for their families, thousands of engineers, designers, product managers, and others moved out of these expensive areas.

Now, companies are requiring them to return to the office, often at higher costs than before. Many have quit or continue to work remotely, spending more time in meetings and on design work rather than commuting. The energy wasted on commuting is counterproductive and makes no sense.

Moreover, not all great designers live in expensive cities. There are thousands of talented professionals working remotely, including individuals with disabilities, stay-at-home parents, and those from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. The notion that the best designers are concentrated in high-cost cities is both narrow-minded and costly.

“Mobile Design” is a remote-only company. By operating remotely, your company can save thousands of dollars and countless hours. Since our work is digital, there is no need for us to be confined to an office when we can be just as productive from home.

What is different between Mobile Design and other agencies?

What sets us apart is that we charge substantially less and work at a faster pace than any other agency. Our team consists of experienced designers specializing in the mobile sector. We have extensive knowledge and experience managing projects both with and without product managers. Instead of focusing on persuasion, we prioritize design and delivery.

What is your operation model?

We are designers who champion minimalism and favor simple processes. Our team adheres to the “double-diamond” design methodology, structured with only three layers of positions:

  1. Junior Designers: With 1-5 years of design experience, these talented individuals are assigned to projects suited to their skills.
  2. Senior Designers: These professionals serve as managers, product managers, and designers, expediting and overseeing projects to ensure they meet BRDs and delivery deadlines.
  3. Creative Director: This role, held by myself, oversees both Junior and Senior Designers, manages operations, and tackles more complex design solutions.

Our streamlined approach ensures efficiency and excellence in our design process.

Do you work onsite?

We operate exclusively remotely from multiple locations, including SF Bay Area, Tokyo, New York, Seattle, Austin, Dallas, Indonesia, and India. Each team member has signed international NDAs and excels in their respective professions.

I am based in Bellevue, Washington, and Dallas, Texas, strategically positioned among our operational hubs. In some instances, I am available for in-person meetings either across the United States or other countries.

Do professional placement (recruiting agencies) companies hire you?

Sometimes they do. Out of respect for their reputation, we do not disclose the names of these companies.

Do you do any other designs besides native app?

We specialize in native apps, leveraging over two decades of expertise in UX/UI/IxD/UXR specifically tailored for tablets, mobile devices, and smartwatches.

Do you work internationally?

Absolutely! We offer a subscription-based service that caters to international markets. We provide everything needed to launch your app, but the final step of publishing (submitting) content to the Google Play and Apple App Store must be handled by your organization at your location, as required by Apple and Google guidelines.

Is my name 100% confidential?

Absolutely! We kindly request permission to share your company name to help build our reputation. This collaboration can reduce your subscription costs and broaden our services in the market.

Do you conduct and/or include research?

Research is a crucial component in developing a successful native app. As experienced UX designers, we employ various research methods, including interviews, A/B testing, competitive analysis, design sprints and heuristic evaluations of existing products.

Nevertheless, we understand that some clients may have budget constraints or may not prioritize research in their product development journey. If your project requires the expertise of a researcher with an MA or PhD, we can facilitate connections with these specialists. Please inform us of your preferred approach moving forward.

How many iterations can we have?

Your subscription includes unlimited iterations. Please note that the timeline may vary and could extend over several months, depending on the number of iterations needed.

What do you do with our assets after a project is completed?

You own all assets and files. We archive them securely for up to 24 months to facilitate any future changes or updates you may require. Rest assured, we do not store these on any public servers or files.

More about your subscription

What are the fees involved?

Absolutely zero fees! We operate solely on a subscription-based model, saving you thousands of dollars and valuable time. There are no commitments beyond the monthly (or annual) subscription.

Is the subscription payment due up-front?

First, you would need to submit forms and documents so that we can provide an estimate of the timeline for completing your project or product. Once we reach an agreement, your subscription payment is due before we commence the design process.
